  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000172 to IRIX 5.3.

  14.        This patch contains bug fixes for all patforms.

  18.        This patch contains debugger bug fixes for machines with the
  19.        XFS kernel patch (patch SG0000158).  The software can be
  20.        installed on other configurations harmlessly.

  24.        This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
  25.        5.3.  Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system
  26.        are included for reference.

  28.           +o Patch SG0000158 (bug 240710) implements a change in the
  29.             kernel.  After the change, kernel stack traces from the
  30.             existing debugger would not work properly under some
  31.             circumstances.  The version of the debugger provided in
  32.             this patch fixes the problems with producing kernel
  33.             stack traces.
  34.  
  35.             This has no effect whatever on stack traces (or
  36.             anything else) for ordinary user programs.

  50.        this patch, determine the patches that meet your specific

  53.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  54.        software product.  Follow the instructions in your _I_R_I_S
  55.        _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot form of

  74.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  76.          1.  At the Inst>prompt, type

  80.          2.  Select the desired patches for installation.

  82.          3.  Initiate the installation sequence. Type

  86.          4.  You may find that two patches have been marked as
  87.              incompatible.  If this occurs, you must deselect one
  88.              of the patches.

  92.          5.  After completing the installation process, exit the
  93.              _i_n_s_t program by typing

  98.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
  99.        would for any other software subsystem.  The removal process
  100.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  101.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.

  105.        To keep a patch but increase your disk space, use the
  106.        _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e_h_i_s_t command to remove the patch history.
